From Logs to the Lighted Cross ~ Forever Faithful ~ The First Methodist Episcopal Church of Williston was organized in 1892 by Rev. Israel Putman, a missionary minister. The first church, built of logs, was replaced in 1897 by the Post Chapel from Ft. Buford, which was moved down river, over the ice, from the fort site to Williston. In 1899, the church changed it's name to "The Oliver K. Engle Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church of Williston, ND". The Post Chapel church was destroyed by fire in 1905 and promptly rebuilt. It served the congregation until 1927 when it also was destroyed by a fire. The present church building was built and dedicated in October, 1929 and with additions and remodeling over the years continues to serve Methodism in Williston. On Jun 16, 1965 the church name was changed to First Methodist Church. Following the merger in 1972 with the Faith E.U.B. Church, the name was changed to Faith United Methodist Church of Williston.
